
Funderburg Leads Men's Track to Third Place Showing at Patriot Games

FAIRFAX, Va. – Junior Will Funderburg claimed the individual title and set a new school record in the shot put to lead the Wildcat men tracksters to a third place finish at the Patriot Games on the campus of George Mason Saturday afternoon.
Funderburg bested the field with a throw of 15.31 meters, bettering his own record throw of 14.44 meters from a season ago.
The Wildcats finished tied for third with Richmond after amassing 49 points. Host George Mason won the event with 128 points.
Junior Kwame Som-Pimpong also set a pair of school records in the competition. He bested his own record, 13.30 meters from last season, in the triple jump with a runner-up mark of 13.69 meters.
Som-Pimpong also qualified for the finals in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.19 and finished sixth in the heat in a school-record time of 7.13.
The men also had strong showings in the distance events, as junior Thad Sieracki and senior Sam Morris turned in top 10 times in the 3,000 meters. A Davidson Top-10 performer, Sieracki finished sixth in 8:46.88, while Morris was 10th with a time of 9:04.05.
Junior Alex Hoyt took sixth in the 1000 meters with a Davidson Top-10 time of 2:34.06, and sophomore Blake Evitt did the same with an 8th place time of 2:36.10.
In the field events, freshman Bryce Jones earned a spot on the Davidson Top-10 performer list with a second-place showing in the pole vault with a mark of 3.65 meters.
The Wildcat men also finished first in the distance medley relay, as sophomore Peter Bruton, freshman Jonathan Koch, Evitt and Hoyt combined for a Davidson Top-10 performance time of 10:42.78.
The Wildcats will return to action next weekend, when they travel to the University of North Carolina for the Carolina Classic on Fri., Feb. 1.
