The Pioneer Football League announced today that Davidson defensive back Matt Easton has been named the league's Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Wildcats' 33-30 setback at Wingate last Saturday.
Easton led the team with nine tackles and returned an interception 25 yards for his first career touchdown. It was the first interception return for a TD by a Wildcat since Preston Wilson went 28 yards for a score against Greensboro College in 2005. Easton also forced a fumble and recorded a sack, both career firsts.
The junior is the first Davidson player to earn PFL Defensive Player of the Week honors since teammate Bud Crawford won the award Sept. 16, 2006. Easton leads Davidson in tackles with 15, including nine solo stops.
The Wildcats are back in action this Saturday as they host Lenoir-Rhyne at Richardson Stadium in a 1 p.m. contest on Homecoming.
