DAVIDSON, N.C. - With the Wildcats leading 4-1, inclement weather spoiled the evening and forced play to be suspended ten minutes into the Davidson field hockey team's home opener against the Catawba Indians Thursday night at Belk Turf Field.
Senior Catherine Ransone scored a pair of goals in just four minutes to give Davidson a 2-0 lead before senior Ginnie Friddell and junior Lauren Calve added scores.
With a steady rain falling, Catawba's Jill Archambault put the Indians on the board in the ninth minute, before lightning forced the teams to seek shelter with 22:06 remaining in the first period.
Junior Britti Himelfarb recorded two assists, sandwiched by assists from senior Eleanor Cowley and Calve. Davidson outshot Catawba 8-1, while sophomore keeper Christa Goeke made one save in 11:12 minutes of play.
The two teams will resume the game on a date yet to be determined. Davidson will hope for better luck on Saturday, as the 'Cats host Christopher Newport at 1 p.m. at Belk Turf Field, and Mercyhurst, Sunday at 2 p.m.
