DAVIDSON, N.C. –– The Southern Conference has announced the site for this year's Women's Soccer Championships as it will be hosted by Davidson College at Alumni Stadium from Nov. 9-11. The quarterfinals will again be hosted at the higher seed's home field on Nov. 4, before the semifinals and championship game move to Davidson.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of women's championships in the Southern Conference.
“We're very excited to be hosting the SoCon Tournament at Alumni Stadium in November,” said head coach Greg Ashton, who is entering his fourth season at Davidson with an overall record of 37-21-5. “It's one of the best soccer specific venues in the SoCon and will be an exciting event to have on campus. We will do all we can to be one of the four teams to participate in the tournament. The SoCon has developed into a very competitive league with a number of teams from top to bottom trying to compete for the title, and that's what makes the conference so great to play in.”
The Wildcats will be hosting the semifinals and championship game for the first time since the 1996 season, the last year they won both the regular-season and tournament titles. Dating back to 1994, the first year the Wildcats were members of the SoCon, Davidson has gone 13-9 in the conference tournament and taken home the championship crown three times — 1994, '95 and '96.
Davidson is coming off an 11-7-2 season and return 19 letterwinners from a year ago. The Wildcats finished second in the SoCon with a 7-3 mark, but were upset in the quarterfinals of the tournament when they dropped a 1-0 decision to Georgia Southern.
