Men Finish 24th at NCAA Cross Country Regionals

LOUISVILLE, Ky. –– The Davidson women's and men's cross country teams finished 9th and 24th, respectively, at the NCAA regionals held at the E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park in Louisville, Ky. on Saturday, Nov. 11. The women's team finished two spots better than last year's squad, who finished 11th overall.
Taking home the team-title on both the women's and men's side this year was the N.C. State Wolfpack, with Julia Lucas earning top-individual honors with a first place finish on the women's side.
For the Wildcat men, sophomore Lance Harden (Apex, N.C.) earned a time of 32:32.50, which placed him 60th out of 222 runners. His time this year matched his mark of a season ago and he improved 39 spots from his 99th place finish at last year's regionals.
Following Harden was two seniors in Alex Varner (San Rafael, Calif.) and Douglas Noreen (Apex, N.C.), who raced their final races of their Wildcat careers. Varner earned the Wildcats' second fastest time, with a mark of 33:24.00, while Noreen came in 142nd overall with a time of 33:44.90. Noreen's time this season was a full minute faster than his time of a year ago and he improved his finish overall by 43 spots.
Sophomore Caroline Sanker (Rocky River, Ohio) paced the Wildcat women's team in the 6K race with a time of 21:36.80, good for 32nd place out of 215 runners.
Closely behind Sanker was juniors Brenna Burns (Weaverville, N.C.) and Megal Atias (Maccabin-Reut, Israel), who finished 41st and 62nd, respectively. Burns clocked in with a time of 21:55.65, while Atias crossed the finish line at 22:16.35.
Two other runners finished in the top-100 for Davidson as sophomore Emily King (Honolulu, Hawaii) had a time of 22:18.70 for 63rd place and fellow sophomore Lucy Rodgers (Raleigh, N.C.) ran to a 73rd place finish with a time of 22:24.85.
