WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Davidson Wildcats lacrosse team extended its winning streak to four straight contests with a 15-4 victory over Howard on Sunday afternoon at Greene Stadium, spoiling senior day for the Bison.
With the win, the 'Cats improve to 3-8, while Howard falls to 2-11. Earlier in the week, Davidson also defeated Navy in a scrimmage.
Sophomore attacker Becky Horton paced the Wildcat attack with four goals and an assist, while freshman attacker Jen Crawford, junior attacker Emily Diefendorf, freshman attacker Haley Cook, junior midfielder Emily Palmer and junior midfielder Sarah Walter each chipped in a pair of goals. Freshman midfielder Cheli Bleda added the final goal of the game for the 'Cats.
Palmer and Walter also added a pair of assists, while Finnigan had one.
Freshman keeper Michelle Pav made the start for the 'Cats in goal, getting a pair of saves and allowing just one goal in the first half. Junior keeper Laura Johnson took over in the second half and picked up 11 saves against just a pair of goals.
Howard seniors Shannon Morris, Iram Abdullah and Meghan Fitzgerald each recorded a goal in the final game of their career, while Alana Webb also scored for the Bison.
After jumping out to a 3-0 lead, the 'Cats extended the margin to 8-2 at the break. Fitzgerald scored the first goal after the break for Howard to get the Bison within five goals, as close as they would manage the rest of the way.
Davidson will return to action on Wed., April 25 as they travel to Longwood for a 4 p.m. contest. The 'Cats will host Limestone in their final game of the season on Sat., April 28, which will include Senior Day festivities.
