DAVIDSON, N.C. - Junior attacker Emily Diefendorf netted four goals to pace the Davidson Wildcat lacrosse team to an 11-9 triumph over the Pfeiffer University Falcons on Thursday night at Richardson Stadium.
With its second straight win, Davidson improves to 2-8, while Pfeiffer falls to 11-3.
Sophomore midfielder Becky Horton and freshman attacker Haley Cook each added a pair of goals, while freshman attacker Jen Crawford, junior Sarah Walter and freshman Bianca Mitchell each got on the score.
Brenna Clark and Jenn Gappert scored three goals apiece for the Falcons, while Kristen Kibler made 18 saves in 60 minutes in the goal.
"It wasn't the prettiest of wins, but it feels great to get another win," head coach Betsy Economou said. "I think we have to give a lot of credit to Pfeiffer. They played a very good game. I thought we played a great first half, but crumbled a bit in the second half and struggled some defensively, but our offense lifted us to the win."
The 'Cats led 6-2 at the half, but Pfeiffer scored seven second-half goals to get within two. Davidson outshot the Falcons 34-21 and picked up 26 ground balls to 11 for Pfeiffer. The 'Cats won 13 draws to eight for Pfeiffer and forced 21 turnovers while committing just 14.

Pfeiffer's Gappert put the Falcons on the board with 16:13 remaining in the half on an 8-meters shot, and after the team's played eight shutout minutes, Cook scored her second goal with 8:52 left, as she made good on a pass from junior midfielder Kate McDonald. Diefendorf gave the 'Cats their sixth goal of the half with three and a half minutes left in the half, but Sara Lefebvre connected on a pass from Clark to give the Falcons the final goal of the period.
After winning the opening draw, Clark needed just eight seconds to score the first goal of the second half for the Falcons, and Gappert netted her second of the game with 25:30 remaining to shrink Davidson's lead to 6-4.
Davidson traded goals with Pfeiffer for the next several minutes, but kept the Falcons within two the rest of the way. Diefendorf busted up the scoring streak, making it 7-4 with a goal at 23:45, but Gappert answered again for the Falcons to pull Pfeiffer within two. Walter's goal off a pass from Cook a minute later was answered by Ashley Hill, as Clark picked up her second assist.
Diefendorf's third goal with just over 20 minutes remaining pushed the 'Cats lead to 9-6, and the 'Cats played another shutout eight minutes before Heidi Karaszkiewicz put away a pass from Hill at 11:23 to keep the Falcons within reach, 9-7.
