NEWARK, Del. - Junior tri-captain Sarah Walter scored two goals, and freshman attacker Haley Cook added another, as the Davidson lacrosse team dropped an 11-3 decision at the University of Delaware Friday afternoon.
Through eight games, Walter and Cook lead all Davidson (0-8) scorers, along with sophomore Becky Horton and freshman Jen Crawford, with eight goals. Walter also moved into the points lead (10).
Casey McCrudden led all scorers with four goals for Delaware (3-3), who also got a pair of goals and assists from Nicole Flego. Katie Muth also scored twice for the Fightin' Blue Hens.
In goal, Delaware's Jessica Cerveny picked up the win after allowing just three goals and making seven saves. Laura Johnson took the loss for the 'Cats, finishing with 11 saves in 60 minutes.
Davidson won 10 of 16 draw controls, but committed 19 turnovers to just 12 for the Blue Hens, who held a 27-15 edge of shots and a 15-9 advantage on ground balls.
Flego started the scoring on an assist from Emily Schaknowski a minute and a half into the game, but Davidson answered with two straight goals to take the lead. Cook scored in the fourth minute of play, and Walter got her first with 22:31 remaining in the first period to give Davidson a 2-1 lead.
McCrudden knotted the game with under twenty minutes to play in the period, and Courtney Aburn's goal at the 18:22 mark gave the Blue Hens the lead for good.
McCrudden scored her second goal on an assist from Flego, and Debbie Sloan pushed Delaware's lead to 5-2 with just under 11 minutes left in the first.
With 6:35 left in the period, Walter converted a pass from junior defender Anna Mitchell for her second goal, which also proved to the the team's last.
Muth and Amanda Jones scored back-to-back goals to give the Blue Hens a 7-3 advantage at the half, and Delaware rode four unanswered, second-half goals to an 11-3 victory.
After a week off, Davidson will return to Richardson Stadium for a two-game homestand, taking on St. Mary's (Calif.) on Tues., April 3 at 7 p.m. and Pfeiffer on Thurs., April 5 at 7 p.m.
