
Burns Named Academic All-American

DAVIDSON, N.C. - After setting four school records, qualifying for the NCAA regional and maintaining a 3.98 G.P.A., Davison track standout Brenna Burns capped off an impressive junior campaign with a selection to ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-America Third Team, as voted by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Continuing her assault on the record books, Burns set four Davidson records in 2007, taking the school's top times in the indoor 3,000 meters, the indoor and outdoor 5,000 meters and the outdoor 10,000 meters. She qualified for the NCAA Regionals in the 5,000 meters in school-record time at the Duke Asics Invitational and finished second in the 10,000 meters at the Southern Conference Championships, smashing the school record and besting the old league mark in the process.
In the classroom, the psychology major from Weaverville, N.C. carries an impressive 3.98 GPA. For her outstanding performance in the classroom, Burns nabbed a pair of TIAA-CREF Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week selections.She was also a two-time Southern Conference Athlete of the Week for her performance on the track.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.2, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
