DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson College men's indoor and outdoor track & field teams were one of only 34 Division I teams to earn NCAA Men's All-Academic Team honors as announced by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) recently. Davidson as a team had a 3.182 GPA and finished 10th out of the 34 teams.
Stanford was named the 2007 Division I USTFCCCA Men's All-Academic Team of the Year for both the indoor and outdoor seasons after finishing in eighth place at this year's Division I Indoor National Championships and in tenth place at the most recent Outdoor Championships. The selection of the outstanding team was based on a combination of athletic and academic achievement.
This past year, the Wildcats' indoor and outdoor seasons were once again one of their best in recent school history. After finishing fifth at the 2006 Southern Conference Indoor Championships, Davidson topped that mark with its best showing ever in school history by coming in third-place with a team-record 57 points at the 2007 championships. In addition, Davidson set six individual school records at the meet.
Carrying that momentum into the outdoor season, the Wildcats matched the best finish in school history at the SoCon Outdoor Championships by closing out the two-day event in third place. They also scored a new school-record 104 points and set two new school bench marks. Individually, senior Douglas Noreen (Apex, N.C.) became the first-ever Wildcat to be named the Most Valuable Track Performer at the championships, while head coach Gary Andrew was named Co-Coach of the Year for the second straight season.
The Wildcats also sent three track and field performers to the NCAA Regionals for the first time in school history.
To be nominated for the all-academic team, schools must carry a minimum 3.000 cumulative GPA throughout the season.
