ATLANTA, Ga.— Senior Douglas Noreen (Apex, N.C.) continued his assault on the Davidson record books by breaking his own school record set a year ago in the 800-meter to lead the Wildcat men's track and field team in their final meet of the season at the Georgia Tech Invitational on Saturday, May 12, on the George C. Griffin Track.
Noreen, who has had one of best season's in recent Wildcat track history, concluded his final regular-season meet by breaking his own school record time in the 800-meter with a new personal- and school-best time of 1:51.06. He owns both the indoor and outdoor records in the event, and has totaled five new records in all during his four-year track career at Davidson.
Junior Brad Troxell (Fort Collins, Colo.) closed out his junior year with a new personal-best time of 1:54.82 to finish right behind Noreen in the 800-meter.
Also running for Davidson was sophomore JinHan Justin Song (Seoul, Korea) in the 200- and 400-meter events. He picked up times of 22.67 in the 200-meter and then wrapped up the invitational with a time of 49.96 in the 400-meter.
In the field events, sophomore Will Funderburg (Buford, Ga.) scored a Davidson Top-10 Performance List throw in the shot put. Already the owner of the school record for both the indoor and outdoor shot put, the sophomore had a throw of 49' 6 1/2" to earn the Wildcats lone top-10 finish on the afternoon, finishing right at 10th place.
Next up for the Wildcats is the NCAA East Regionals, which will be held May 25-26 in Gainesville, Fla. Representing Davidson at the regionals will be Noreen in the 800-meter, senior David Ritchie (Austin, Texas) in the 400-meter hurdles and Beaux Jones (Ruston, La.) in the javelin. Each of them qualified for the regionals when they claimed individual titles in their respective events at the Southern Conference outdoor Championships.
