PHILADELPHIA, Pa.— The Wildcat men's track and field represented Davidson College over the weekend at the historic Penn Relays and came away with a nice showing at the three-day event. The Wildcats ran in the 4x400 meter relay and 4x800 meter relay over the weekend.
Started on April 21, 1895, in conjunction with the University's Spring Handicap Track and Field Games, the Penn Relays are the longest uninterrupted collegiate track meet in the country, drawing competition from all over the nation.
Friday saw the Wildcats relay team of seniors John Bialas and David Ritchie, along with junior Brad Troxell and sophomore JinHan Justin Song run in the 4x400 relay and finish just seconds off the school record the team set last weekend at the Southern Conference Championships. The four-man team clocked in with a time of 3:17.20 to finish 36th out of 70 teams. The time was good enough to finish fourth in their respective heat. Just last weekend at the SoCon outdoor Championships, the Wildcats set a new school record with a time of 3:15.98.
Then on Saturday, Davidson ran in the 4x800 relay. The team of senior Douglas Noreen, who was crowned the Most Valuable Track Performer last weekend at the SoCon Championships, along with Troxell, sophomore Alex Hoyt and freshman Peter Burton earned a time of 7:51.64 to place them in 28th place out of 33 teams that competed in the event. They also finished 13th in their section.
Davidson returns to the track with a meet at the Orange & Purple Classic held on the campus of Clemson, Sunday May 6.
