BOONE, N.C. – The Wildcat women's track and team set two new school relay records and finished in seventh place at the 2007 Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships as competition wrapped up on Sunday afternoon on the campus of Appalachian State University.
The Wildcat 4x100 relay team continued rewriting their own history, as freshman Kristen Meister, sophomore Chieko Phillips, sophomore Kim Colley and junior Amaka Obidegwu raced to a new Davidson standard time of 47.77 with a fourth-place finish. The time replaces the group's most recent mark of 48.87 at the Radford Collegiate Invite earlier this season.
Senior Jessica Chasen then joined with Meister, Phillips and Obidegwu to set a new mark in the 4x400 relay with a fifth-place finish time of 3:53.45, besting the former top-time of 4:00.11 from the 2001 season.
In the two-day competition, Davidson set five new school records. In addition to the two new relay standards, Meister (high jump), junior Brenna Burns (10,000 meters) and Colley (200 meters) turned in top school times in yesterday's events.
Georgia Southern captured its first-ever women's team title as it finished with 223.50 points, while meet-host Appalachian followed in second with 173.50 points. Western Carolina (160 points), Chattanooga (69 points), The Citadel (56 points), Elon (50 points), Davidson (36 points), Furman (28 points), College of Charleston (19 points) and Wofford (four points) rounded out the field.
The Wildcats will return to action on Sat., May 5 as they travel to Clemson for the Orange and Purple Invitational.
