Mens Track & Field in Seventh After Day One of SoCon Championships

BOONE, N.C.— The Davidson men's track and field team, looking to match their school-best finish of third last season, sit in seventh place after the first day of the Southern Conference Championships held on the campus of Appalachian State.
Appalachian State leads the seven-team men's field with 114 points followed by Western Carolina with 72 after the first day. Of the six events that were scored, the Mountaineers earned first place in three of them.
Freshman Tom Divinnie scored the highest honors for the Wildcats in the first day when he came in fourth place in the 10000-meter event to score five of the Davidson's seven points on the day. He ran a time of 32:36.91, finishing behind three Appalachian State runners.
Scoring the other two points was senior Jim Walter, who earned a seventh-place finish in the hammer event. He picked up a throw of 129' 5". Walters is looking to made it back to the NCAA regionals in the discus, which will be one of the field events tomorrow.
The championships wrap up tomorrow starting at 8 a.m. and running to the last event, which is scheduled to be the 4x400-meter relay at 4:30 p.m.
