'Cats Sign Four to Class of 2011 for Women's Soccer

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The Davidson head women's soccer coach Greg Ashton recently announced the signings of four scholar student-athletes to the program as members of the Davidson College class of 2011. Ashton and the Wildcats welcome another geographically diverse group of elite scholar-athletes in his third recruiting class at Davidson. Their unique qualities and backgrounds are all underscored by traits of athletic versatility, work-ethic, and scholastic excellence. The incoming freshmen are as followed:
Allison Drutchas
Position: Midfield
Hometown: Bloomfield Hills, Michigan
Club Team: Bloomfield Force
High School: Lahser
Accomplishments: Nine-year captain of nationally-ranked Bloomfield Force club team… Three-time State Cup champion, two Region II Finalist finishes… Region II champions… Surf Cup Super-Group winners… Four-year Michigan ODP player… Region II ODP and National Camp participant in 2002… 1st team All-State scholastic honors and 2006 State Final… 2-year captain at Lasher… Student Body President… Student Council… Class President… Editor-in-Chief of Lasher newspaper… Academic Achievement Award (4 years)… national candidate for the NCTE Writing Award… class of 2011 recipient of the Bryan Scholarship, Davidson's premier student-athlete scholarship… daughter of Cheryl and Greg Drutchas.
Coach Ashton: “Allison is an extremely technical player with great vision of the field. She leads by example and has gained valuable experience with her club team competing against some of the best teams in the country. We look forward to having Allison strengthening the center of our midfield.”
Callan Elswick
Position: Midfield/Defense/Forward
Hometown: Locust Grove, Virginia
Club Team: SYC Galaxy
High School: Highland
Accomplishments: Five-year Virginia ODP player…Three-year scholastic captain… First Team All-Conference as a sophomore, First Team All-State as a junior… completes scholastic career in the spring of 2007… Founder's Scholarship recipient from 2004-2007 at HHS… #1 in her class... Honor Council and Prefect Board… National Honors Society… Bryan Scholarship finalist at Davidson… daughter of Lois and Anthony Elswick.
Coach Ashton: “Callan is a young lady we got to know through our camp. She has a great attitude toward the game and is able to play in a number of positions. Her speed and endurance will add to our attacking capabilities in the midfield and possibly up front.”
Amanda Flink
Position: Defender
Hometown: Richardson, Texas
Club Team: Sting
High School: J.J. Pearce
Accomplishments: Five years with the Sting '89 Royal... 2006 Disney Soccer Showcase finalists… TX Premier League finalists… Texas Cup champions… Scholastic team Captain… numerous district honors… High Honor Roll and VP of the National Honor Society… Ranked 4th in her class… AP Scholar with Honor and National Merit Semifinalist… “Who's Who” Award-winner… Cal Tech Science and Math Award… Math and Spanish clubs and Younglife participant… daughter of Deborah and Bill Flink.
Coach Ashton: “Amanda has had the opportunity to play against some of the best attacking players in the country with her club team Sting. She will bring a new dimension to our defense with her tremendous speed and ability to read the game.”
Julianne Lapsa
Position: Defender
Hometown: Adamstown, Maryland
Club Team: FC Virginia Rockets
High School: Urbana
Accomplishments: Two-year captain for Urbana… 2nd Team All-State honors in 2006… All-Area, All-Conference and All-Gazette prep career… 2-time Virginia State Cup finalist… Surf Cup's Super Group finalist… Maryland ODP participant… Highest Honors at Urbana H.S. since 2003… “Top Junior Scholar”… 2006 Maryland Distinguished Scholar Semifinalist… “AP Scholar with Honor”… daughter of Tom and Maureen Lapsa.
