DAVIDSON, N.C.— Senior Jim Walter (Solon, Ohio) was honored with the Wildcats' first Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week award as announced by the Southern Conference today after he broke his own school record in the discus event over the weekend.
Walter gave Davidson its third Athlete of the Week honor during both the Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field season so far this year.
An NCAA regional qualifier last year, Walter started his quest to make a return trip back with the fifth-best throw in the discus over the two-day event at the Coastal Carolina Invitational with a new school record of 157' 4". His previous best mark was 153' 7", which he threw when he won the discus title at the SoCon Championships last spring.
The Wildcats head to the cross-county rival Charlotte 49ers Classic starting on March 16th and running till the 17th.
