CLEMSON, S.C. -- Brenna Burns was named the Most Outstanding Track Performer and Kristen Meister was named Southern Conference Freshman of the Year as the Davidson men's and women's track teams concluded competition at the 2007 Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday evening.
After winning her first indoor title in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:53.83 in yesterday's competition, Burns finished second in the 5000 meters and broke the Davidson record by more than a minute with a time of 17:08.63. Sophomore Emily King finished sixth in the event winning the slow heat with a time of 18:07.76, also better than Sally Stanhope's 2002 record of 18:14.22, to pick up three points.
Meister, who yesterday set a new Southern Conference record in the high jump with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 1.81 meters, nabbed Southern Conference Freshman of the Year honors after finishing sixth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.27 in today's competition.
The Wildcat women finished in eighth place with 37 points. The Appalachian women claimed their seventh straight SoCon championship finishing with 161 points, just beating out second-place Western Carolina by a mere 1.5 points, to nab their 14th crown in the 20-year history of the championship.
