Meister was the only athlete to set a new conference record on the day after clearing 1.81 meters in the women's high jump. The previous SoCon record was held by Appalachian State's Linda McKay, who cleared 1.79 meters in 1989. Meister narrowly missed an automatic qualifications to the NCAA tournament with the record leap, and she smashed her own Davidson record of 1.68 meters, set earlier this season.
In the 3000 meters, Burns finished first in the field of 22 runners with a time 9:53.83, edging Appalachian State's Kasey Smith by just over three seconds. Earlier this season, she set a new school mark in the event with a run of 9:53.37 at the UNC Fast Times and was named both Southern Conference Athlete of the Week and TIAA-CREF Student-athlete of the Week for her efforts. Sophomore Caroline Sanker also earned points for Davidson in the event, placing eighth with a time of 10:13.97.
Sophomore Chieko Phillips, who became the 'Cats record-holder in the 55-meters earlier in the season, also set two new school records on the first day of competition. With a time of 8.01 in the preliminaries, Phillips set a new Davidson standard in the 60-meters, and she set a new school best in the 200 meters with a time of 26.46 in the preliminaries. Sophomore Kim Colley previously held both records with a time of 8.04 in the 60-meters and 26.64 in the 200-meters.
The Wildcats will conclude competition at the 2007 Indoor SoCons on Saturday evening.
