CLEMSON, S.C. — The Davidson men's indoor track team had a very successful first-day at the Southern Conference Championships in Clemson, S.C. as two school records fell. Davidson currently sits in third place with 22 points, behind Western Carolina (72.50) and Appalachian State (106.50).
The sophomore combo of Lance Harden and Alex Hoyt earned top-10 finishes in the 3000-meter. Harden set a new school record with a time of 8:36.70, breaking Dan Gibson's mark set in 2002 by 28ths of a second, earning the sophomore all-conference honors with a third-place finish. Hoyt came in seventh with a time of 8:44.92, scoring two points for the 'Cats.
In the final race of the night, the distance medley relay team raced to a time of 10:51.50 for a fifth-place finish to earn Davidson four points.
The field event members for the Wildcats also had a nice showing after day one. Senior John Bialas earned two points for the Wildcat men's team in the long jump after picking up a jump of 21' 9-1/2"7.
In the shot put, sophomore Will Funderburg broke his own school record he set earlier this season, with a second-place throw of an even 50 feet to score eight points and earn all-conference honors.
The men wrap up the two-day event tomorrow, Feb. 18 with events running all day. All results can be followed at www.soconsports.com.
