CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Junior Brenna Burns, who earlier in the season set a new Davidson record in the 3,000-meters, turned in the team's top finish of the day once more, as the Wildcat women's track and field team competed at the Carolina Classic on the campus of the University of North Carolina on Friday afternoon.
Burns placed fourth in the mile with a time of 5:08.79, less than three seconds off former Wildcat standout Kathy Beach's school record of 5:06.21.
Another consistent force in the distance events, sophomore Caroline Sanker placed sixth in the event with a time of 5:10.91.
The school-record holder in the high jump, freshman Kristen Meister finished eighth in the event with a mark of 1.63 meters. She also placed 15th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.17.
Sophomore Chieko Phillips continued her strong showings in the sprints with a 15th-place finish in the 400-meters with a time of 1:00.98.
Things heat up again next weekend, when the Wildcat women compete at the Southern Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 17-18 in Clemson, S.C.
