DAVIDSON, N.C. - Senior Douglas Noreen placed his name in the Wildcat record books yet again, this time breaking his own record in the 800-meter as he was one of five runners and field event members to place in the top-10 on Friday at the Carolina Classic on the campus of North Carolina.
Noreen, who last season set the mark in the 800 with a time of 1:55.41, earned a second-place finish with a new record time of 1:54.75. He also holds the school record in the mile in both indoor and outdoor track.
Speaking of the mile, freshman Chet Howland registered a team-best time of 4:38.09 to pick up a seventh-place finish.
In the field events, senior Jim Walter and sophomore Will Funderburg each picked up top-10 finishes at the classic. Walter earned a mark in the Davidson top-10 Performance and Performer list by throwing the weight 44' 8-1/4" for an eighth-place showing.
Funderburg, who last week set a school record in the shot put, tallied a ninth-place finish with a throw of 47' 3/4", good enough for a spot on the Davidson top-10 performance list.
Senior John Bialas rounded out the Wildcats who earned top-10 performances with a ninth-place showing in the long jump as he picked up a jump of 20' 10-1/2".
The men now gear themselves up for the Southern Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 17-18 held in Clemson, S.C. Last season, the Wildcats picked up a fifth place finish and their 33 points scored as a team were the most ever registered by any pervious Davidson team.
