DAVIDSON, N.C. – After an outstanding second year, sophomore Kyri Bye-Nagel (Hanau, Germany) earned yet another postseason honor by representing Davidson with a nod on the All-State University Division Women's Soccer Team as announced by the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) today.
Bye-Nagel became the third Wildcat in the past four years to earn a spot on the all-state team. Last season, senior Nancy Haskell (Blacksburg, Va.) was one of the three defenders on the 11-member team, and before Haskell, Kara Koehrn '05 was on the team in 2004 and 2005.
The honor is the sophomore's third postseason award after previously being named to the All-Southern Conference first team and SoCon All-Tournament team after scoring the game-winning goal in the Wildcats' quarterfinal win over Wofford, 2-1.
Bye-Nagel finished with team-and career highs of 12 goals and 25 points, placing her second and third, respectively, in each category in the SoCon. Davidson as a team scored the third most goals in the league with 37, averaging nearly two goals a game (1.85).
She also finished tops in the league in shots with 66, putting 38 of them on goal for the Wildcats, who got off 295 shots for the season.
Twice this past season Bye-Nagel was named the SoCon Player of the Week as Davidson won the weekly award four times in all.
The sophomore forward joined three other SoCon players to help make up the 11-member all-state team. UNC Greensboro, who won the regular-season SoCon title, placed three players on the list, while cross-county rival Charlotte, Wake Forest and UNC Wilmington had two players each on the team.
The team consists of NCAA Division I student-athletes from North Carolina colleges and universities. Nominees are submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals and then NCCSIA members vote for the all-state team.
Davidson concluded a very successful season by matching the 1999 and 2005 teams for most wins in a single-season with a 14-5-1 overall record. Davidson also tied the school-record for most shutouts in a season with 10.
The Wildcats, who finished second with an 8-1-1 regular season league mark, had their run in the SoCon tournament come to an end when they lost 1-0 to Furman in the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 9.
The 'Cats finished ranked 10th in the final National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas regional poll on Nov. 6.
