DAVIDSON, N.C. – For the second time this year, the Davidson women's soccer team has gained national recognition with a spot on both the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas and Soccer Buzz Magazine regional polls this week after earning a trip to the semifinals of the Southern Conference Women's Soccer Tournament this coming weekend, Nov. 9.
It marks the second time this year the Wildcats, who are ranked 10th, have broke into the NSCAA/adidas regional poll after they were also ranked on Oct. 9. The regional poll for the NSCAA/adidas is the final one for the regular season.
The Wildcats, riding a six-game winning streak and sitting at 14-4-1 overall, had previously been receiving votes before breaking into Soccer Buzz regional poll this week, coming in at 15th.
Davidson is coming off a 2-1 win over Wofford in the quarterfinals of the SoCon tournament last Sunday to match the school record for most wins in a single season. The 'Cats trip to the semifinals marks the third time in the past four years they have accomplished the feat during head coach Greg Ashton's four year tenure at Davidson.
The six-game winning streak is the second longest this season after rattling off an eight-game unbeaten streak from Sept. 16 to Oct. 12. During that streak, Davidson earned the program's first wins over Mercer, Vanderbilt and LSU, who at the time was unbeaten and riding a school-best 10-game unbeaten streak.
Second-seeded Davidson hopes to take advantage of its home field as it plays host to this year's SoCon Tournament, starting with its semifinal game against third-seeded Furman on Friday at 7 p.m. at Alumni Stadium. UNC Greensboro and College of Charleston will play in the first semifinal game at 4:30.
