DAVIDSON, N.C. — For their efforts in assisting the Wildcats in making the Southern Conference Women's Soccer Tournament semifinals, senior goalie Bevin English (Charleston, S.C.) and sophomore Kyri Bye-Nagel (Hanau, Germany) earned a nod on the SoCon All-Tournament team this past weekend.
The last two Wildcats to earn nods on all-tournament team was Kara Koehrn and Chloe King in 2005.
Davidson concluded a very successful season by matching the 1999 and 2005 teams for most wins in a single-season with a 14-5-1 overall record. The Wildcats run in the tournament came to an end when they lost 1-0 to Furman in the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 9.
The Wildcats also finished ranked 10th in the final National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas regional poll on Nov. 6.
English had a season for the record books between the pipes, leaving Davidson as one of the best goalies in school history. The Wildcat' goalie this season set a school single-season and personal-best record for shutouts with 10. In addition, English set career bests in wins (13), saves (86), goals against average (0.81), minutes played (1,766:59) and goals allowed (16).
Besides the single season record for shutouts, English set the single season mark for goals against average, while placing her name atop the career record list in total shutouts (21) and goals against average (1.05).
English was named to the All-SoCon Second Team and earned a spot on the third team of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III teams, respectively, on Nov. 1.
Bye-Nagel wrapped her breakout sophomore campaign with a game-winning goal in the Wildcats' quarterfinal win over Wofford, 2-1.
A first-team All-SoCon member this year, the sophomore finished with a team-high 12 goals and 25 points, placing her second and third, respectively, in each category in the SoCon. Bye-Nagel finished tops in the league in shots with 66, putting 38 of them on goal.
Bye-Nagel was twice named the SoCon Player of the Week as Davidson won the weekly award four times in all.
Furman's Rachel Fry was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player as the Paladins placed four players on the all-tournament team after defeating number one-seeded UNC Greensboro, 3-1, in the championship game.
