
Field Hockey Drops Final Regular-Season NorPac Game to Pacific, 6-1

FARMVILLE, Va. — The Davidson Wildcat field hockey team wrapped up the regular season in NorPac conference play with a 6-1 loss to Pacific in a neutral-site matchup at Longwood, finishing an even .500 (3-3) in the league.
Senior forward and leading scorer Kayli Maxwell netted the team's only goal in the 50th minute to make the score 4-1, but Kedibone Leubane recorded a hat trick, including back-to-back goals to open the contest, to deliver the win for the Tigers.
Davidson falls to 7-5 overall and an even 3-3 in NorPac play, while Pacific improves to 2-9 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
Pacific outshot the 'Cats 14-7 in the game, including 7-1 in the first period, and took a 4-3 edge on penalty corners.
Junior Brittany Rollek started in the cage for the 'Cats, allowing three goals and making three saves in just over 33 minutes, while sophomore Mary Clay finished the game in goal with four saves and three scores. For Pacific, Valerie Niles went the distance, allowing just one goal while making three saves.
Leubane started the scoring for Pacific in the eighth minute, hooking up with Erica Nestle for her first score, and added an unassisted goal in the 24th minute when she tapped in a loose ball.
Kim Kayawa made it 3-0 in favor of the Tigers in the 28th minute, tipping in a pass from Kelly Perkins, before Leubane netted her third score in the 36th minute on a rebound to push Pacific's lead to 4-0.
Maxwell's unassisted score in the 50th minute put the 'Cats on the board, but Ashley Niccum and Katy McDonough scored a pair of late goals to lift Pacific to a 6-1 win for its first NorPac triumph of the season. McDonough was credited with an assist on the first goal, while Kayawa assisted on the Tigers' final goal of the game.
Davidson will return to action next weekend, traveling to Hanover, N.H. for three games. The 'Cats will open with host Dartmouth on Sat., Oct. 13 at 1 p.m., before facing Maine at noon on Sun., Oct. 14 and New Hampshire at 1 p.m. on Mon., Oct. 16.
