DAVIDSON, N.C. – Sophomore Kyri Bye-Nagel (Hanau, Germany) capped off her seven-point week by garnering the Wildcats' fourth Southern Conference Player of the Week accolade after leading Davidson to a 2-0 mark last week in women's soccer action. The award was Bye-Nagel's second this year after getting the honor for the week of Sept. 18-25, when she scored twice in guiding the Wildcats to wins over Vanderbilt and LSU at the College of Charleston Tournament. Sophomore Lauren Conner (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) and Suzanne Sittko (Greenwood Village, Colo.) also each earned the weekly award earlier this year.
The sophomore forward scored three goals and chipped in an assist last week as Davidson picked up 2-0 and 4-0 wins over Elon and Chattanooga on Oct. 25 & 28.
Over the past three games, Bye-Nagel has been on a tear, netting six goals and picking up her first assist of the season. In the three-game streak, Bye-Nagel has twice picked up multiple-goal games, including her first collegiate hat trick on Oct. 21 at Western Carolina.
On Thursday against Elon, Bye-Nagel tacked on an insurance goal for the Wildcats late in the second half of their 2-0 win. After senior tri-captain Kristen Koehrn (La Mesa, Calif.) fired a shot off the edge of the the 18-yard box, the ball deflected off an Elon defender to Bye-Nagel, who gathered in the loose ball and hit a right-footed strike from 20 yards out to the near post for her team-leading ninth goal of the season in the 76th minute.
Bye-Nagel then recorded her second career multi-goal game when she scored two goals and picked up an assist on the game-winner at Chattanooga. Bye-Nagel scored with strikes in the 50th and 52nd minutes. The forward's first score of the contest came when she received a pass from junior Melanee Smith (Bloomfield Township, Mich.), pulled the Mocs' keeper off her line leaving an open net.
Less than two minutes after extending the Wildcats' advantage to 3-0, Bye-Nagel found the back of the net from just inside the 18-yard box off a ball from freshman Amanda Flink (Richardson, Texas).
On the season, Bye-Nagel has started 14 of Davidson's 17 games. She paces the team with 11 goals and 23 points, while ranking second in the league in both categories. The sophomore leads the conference in shots with 55, putting 31 of them on goal.
Davidson returns to action Nov. 1 as it hosts Georgia Southern on “Senior Night” at 7 p.m.
