Bye-Nagel Strikes Twice as Davidson Nets 4-0 SoCon Road Win

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Kyri Bye-Nagel recorded a pair of second half goals and set up another as Davidson cruised by SoCon foe Chattanooga 4-0 in women's soccer action Sunday afternoon at the North River Soccer Complex. The victory was the fourth straight for the Wildcats as they improve to 12-4-1 overall and 7-1-1 in the league, while UTC falls to 2-11-2 and 2-6-1.
A native of Hanau, Germany, Bye-Nagel took over the top spot in the conference for goals scored with strikes in the 50th and 52nd minutes. The forward's first score of the contest came when she received a pass from Melanee Smith, pulled the Mocs' keeper off her line leaving an open net.
Less than two minutes after extending the Wildcats' advantage to 3-0, Bye-Nagel found the back of the net from just inside the 18-yard box off a ball from Amanda Flink. Along with scoring her 11th goal of the 2007 campaign, this afternoon's performance was the second multiple-goal contest from the Davidson sophomore.
The Wildcats wasted little time grabbing the game's first lead as senior Kristen Koehrn took advantage of an open net in the 13th minute of play. Koehrn's 16th career goal and eventual game winner was set up by Bye-Nagel.
Davidson put another score on the board just prior to intermission when Suzzane Sittko's blast caromed off Milla Junni to Tiffany Mumby, who put away the rebound to make 2-0 at the break.
After controlling the shot column 9-0 in the opening period, the Wildcats continued to put pressure on the Chattanooga defense finishing with an impressive 22-1 margin.
Coming off her record-setting 19th career shutout in Davidson's blanking of Elon Thursday evening, Bevin English added to the standard with her ninth of the slate, which also leads all keepers in the SoCon.
Despite allowing four goals in 90 minutes of action, Junni turned away 10 shots between the pipes for the Mocs.
Davidson returns to action Nov. 1 as it hosts Georgia Southern on “Senior Night” at 7 p.m. The Mocs will also conclude their regular season Thursday as they travel to Furman for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
