CULLOWHEE, N.C. -- Senior Sam Morris finished in 13th overall to lead the Wildcat men to a fourth-place finish at the 2007 Southern Conference Championships on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Western Carolina in Cullowhee, N.C.
Morris finished in 25:53.68, bettering his time and place from a season ago when he finished in 21st with a time of 26:12.75. Sophomore Tom Divinnie finished in the top 20 for the Wildcats, placing 19th overall with a time of 26:06.10.
With seven of the top 10 runners, Appalachian State won the title with just 27 points, followed by Chattanooga (56) and Furman (86). The Wildcats were fourth with 143 points.
"I'm just really proud of the guys," head coach Gary Andrew said. "They have been through a lot this year, but this is probably the best overall effort I've ever had. They gave everything they had today, and I couldn't be more proud of them."
Junior Thad Sieracki finished in 34th with a time of 26:58.21, and freshman Charlie Schmitt placed just behind at 37th with a time of 27:00.03. Sophomore Blake Evitt rounded out the scoring for the Wildcat men, finishing in the top 50 with a 48th-place time of 27:27.93.
