DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Davidson capped off a solid week with a 3-0 blanking of Western Carolina on Sunday, Oct. 21, to move to 5-1-1 in league play and finish off the week at 2-0. The Wildcats will now play host to Elon on Thursday at Alumni Stadium for the first of their final three games to close out the regular season.
The Matchup
Davidson (10-4-1, 5-1-1 SoCon), who hit the 10-win plateau for the third straight year, will host Elon (5-9-1, 3-4-0 SoCon) on Thursday at 7 p.m. for it second to last home game of the 2007 campaign. The Wildcats currently sit at 5-1 at Alumni Stadium and have gone 11-2 over the past two years at home.
The All-Time Series
Davidson is 8-5-0 vs. Elon since the two teams first played in 1989 and currently owns a three-game winning streak in the series. Last season saw the Wildcats take a 2-0 decision at Elon on Oct. 26, 2006.
Scouting the Wildcats
The Wildcats started off last week with another thrilling overtime win on Wednesday (2-1 over College of Charleston), before registered its sixth shutout win of the 2007 campaign on Sunday. The win against CofC marked the fourth time Davidson has tallied a victory in overtime this season.The Wildcats currently sit in third place in the Southern Conference. The Phoenix sits at 3-4 in league play and in seventh overall.
Sophomores Suzanne Sittko and Kyri Bye-Nagel had themselves a week to remember. Sittko was the hero on Wednesday vs. the Cougars as she registered her second two-goal game of her career and netted the game-winner in the 95th minute on a header to carry her teammates to a 2-1 overtime thrilling win. The two goals on the evening gave Sittko three for the year. She wasn't done as she assisted on Bye-Nagel's first collegiate hat trick on Sunday and garnered SoCon Co-Player of the Week honors for her strong efforts last week.
Bye-Nagel was the only offense Davidson needed on Sunday, netting all three goals at the 1:48, 13:08 and 58:53 marks to give her eight scores on the year. The sophomore paces the team with 16 points, good for fifth in the league. She leads the conference with 50 shots, placing 26 of them on goal.
The Wildcats are third in goals with 27 in the SoCon and have taken 202 shots, good for fifth. Besides Sittko's three and Bye-Nagel's eight goals, respectively, the sophomore combo of Lauren Conner and Blakely Low have totalled a combined nine goals for Davidson. Senior tri-captain Nancy Haskell leads the team with a career-best five assists, with all five of them coming in a Wildcat win.
Senior Bevin English moved into a tie for second all-time with 18 career shutouts and has a SoCon-best seven. She also ranks in the top-five in the league in saves (5th), save percentage (4th), goals against average (0.97), and shutouts (1st).

Elon dropped its two matches last week, falling to Appalachian State (1-0) and Wofford (2-1). The Phoenix are just 2-5-1 on the road this year and are 5-9-1 overall. They have won three of their past five games, including a 7-1 win over Chattanooga on Oct. 7.
Katina Boozer leads Elon with 15 points on seven goals and an assist. Kerri Speers and Brittany Hallberg each have chipped in three goals as Elon has 20 on the year.
Lizz Johnson has started 13 of the 15 games this season, recording 83 saves which ranks third in the SoCon. She has allowed 22 goals and has a record of 5-7-1 between the posts with two shutouts.
