
'Cats Host Mountaineers at Belk Turf Field, Tomorrow at 7 p.m.

Having defeated the Mountaineers 3-2 in a NorPac contest in Boone earlier this season, the Davidson Wildcat field hockey team will host Appalachian State at Belk Turf Field at 7 p.m. tomorrow in a non-conference matchup.
Scouting the Mountaineers
The Mountaineers enter the game with a 3-14 overall record and a winless 0-5 in NorPac play. ASU is coming off a 2-1 conference loss to Longwood on senior day in Boone Sunday. The Mountaineers will finish league play with an Oct. 30 game against Pacific in Berkeley, Calif., before the NorPac tournament gets underway on Nov. 1.
Jessie Harris and Ali Gradischer lead App. State with five goals and a pair of assists for 12 points. Nicole Morgan and Jess Harris each have recorded three assists to lead in that category, while Ashley Patterson has three of the team's five defensive saves. Denise Adams has appeared in 16 games in goal for the Mountaineers and has made 15 starts. In 997:30 minutes, she has made 128 saves against 52 goals and sports a 3.65 GAA and 2-11 record.
Brandi Alexander is in her second season at the helm of the App. State field hockey program. Last season, the Mountaineers went 2-18, but finished strong with a 3-2 upset win over Pacific in the NorPac Tournament semifinals.

Davidson holds a narrow 29-26 edge in the overall series with the Mountaineers that dates back to 1977. Last season, the 'Cats downed Appalachian twice in consecutive games, getting a 4-0 shutout in Boone on Sept. 27 and a 4-1 win on Sept. 23 at Belk Turf Field.

The 'Cats will host Radford at 2:30 p.m. on Sat., Oct. 27 in their final regular-season game of the season. The team's six seniors — Eleanor Cowley, Ginnie Friddell, Kayli Maxwell, Catherine Ransone, Misty Stallings and Jen Willis — will be honored in senior-day festivities.
