Charlie Schmitt Paces M. Cross Country at Furman Invitational

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Four Davidson runners were within two seconds of each other, led by freshman Charlie Schmitt's time of 27:12, as the Wildcat men's cross country team finished sixth out of 18 teams at the Furman Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Schmitt's time was good for 23rd overall out of 148 runners and paced a Wildcat squad that put four runners in the top-30.
Following closely behind Schmitt was junior Alex Hoyt and sophomore Tom Divinnie. Hoyt was just two seconds off Schmitt's time, coming in at 27:14 to score a 26th place finish, while Divinnie matched Hoyt's time and picked up a 27th place finish.
Senior captain Sam Morris closed out Davidson's top-30 runners with a time of 27:16 to earn a 29th place finish.
Fellow senior Thad Sieracki just missed coming in the top-30 with a time of 27:19 and a 31st place finish.
Davidson now gears up for the Southern Conference Championships, which will be held in Cullowhee, N.C. on Oct. 27. The Wildcats will be seeking to match last year's finish of fourth place, which they have done the past two years.
