DAVIDSON, N.C. — Brenna Burns finished first and set a new school record in the 3000 meters as the Wildcat women's track team returned to action over the weekend at the UNC Fast Times, hosted on the campus of the University of North Carolina.
With a time of 9:53.37, Burns shattered Megal Atias' record of 10:11.60, set last season, and bested the field of 19 runners to claim the individual title as well.
Caroline Sanker finished third in the event, with a time of 10:08.62, also better than the previous Wildcat standard.
“Brenna's performance was just fantastic,” head coach Jen Straub said. “It was another great day for the Wildcat women, setting a new school record in the 3000 meters. And Caroline turned in a great day as well, with a time that was also better than the old record.”
Emily King finished ninth in the event with a time of 10:43.64, while Cheiko Phillip turned in two top-30 performances, finishing 24th in the 60-meter dash and 26th in the 200-meter dash.
The women's team will return to Chapel Hill for the Carolina Opener on Feb. 2-3.
