Wildcat Runners Smash School Records at UNC Opener

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Kristen Meister set a new Wildcat standard in the high jump with a mark of 5'6, and the men made three additions to their top-10 performers list at the UNC Opener hosted by the Unversity of North Carolina Saturday afternoon.
The women's 4x400 relay team of Jessica Chasen, Chieko Phillips, Kennesia Martin and Kristen Meister posted a time of 4:17.16, the second-best time in program history on a stan
dard-size indoor track.
On the men's side, Tom Divinnie turned in a top-10 Wildcat performance in the 3000 meters with a second place finish time of 8:43.35. Will Funderburg and Jim Walter each added their names to the top-10 list with throws of 11.86 and 11.48 meters, respectively, in the 35 lb. weight event. Funderburg finished 10th in the event, one of seven top-10 finishes on the day for the 'Cats.
Alex Hoyt and Douglas Noreen finished in the top ten in the mile. Hoyt's time of 4:29.82 was good for fifth while Noreen was seventh after a 4:31.87 run.
David Ritchie finished in 10th place in the 400 meters with a time of 50.60, and then ran with Brad Troxell, Cisco Morales and Justin Song on the 'Cats eighth-place 4x400 relay team. The grouping of Hoyt, Edmund Neyle, Quin Patton and Peter Bruton finished fifth in the distance medley relay.
The women's track teams will return to action on Jan. 19 at the Clemson Invitational. The men will be back in action the following weekend at UNC Fast Times in Chapel Hill on Jan. 26.
