DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson College men's indoor and outdoor track & field teams were one of only 23 Division I teams to earn NCAA Men's All-Academic Team honors as announced by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) today. The 23 Division I men's teams had cumulative grade-point averages of 3.0 or higher.
The USTFCCCA honors individuals and teams for their academic and athletic accomplishments during the indoor and outdoor track seasons.
Arkansas was the 2006 Division I USTFCCCA Men's All-Academic Team of the Year for both the indoor and outdoor seasons after winning the 2006 NCAA Division I men's indoor title and finishing fifth in the NCAA outdoor championships. The selection of the outstanding team was based on a combination of athletic and academic achievement.
This past year, the Wildcats indoor and outdoor seasons were one of their best in recent school history. During the indoor season, Davidson finished in 5th place and the 33 total points scored by the Wildcats were the most ever by any previous Davidson indoor track team. The fifth place showing also tied the Wildcats highest finish ever in program history.
Davidson carried that momentum into the outdoor season with a school-best finish of third place in the outdoor Southern Conference Championships, which topped the fifth place showing the Wildcats had back in 1957, '69 and '72.
The Wildcats also set nine individual school records during both the indoor and outdoor seasons and head coach Gary Andrew was honored with the SoCon Co-Coach of the Year during the outdoor season.
