CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Turning in Davidson's top female performances at the North Carolina Fast Times outdoor track meet on Saturday, Caroline Sanker and Emily King flexed their freshman muscles, crossing the finish line first and second, respectively, in the 3000 meters.
Sanker clocked a 3K time of 10:35.20 to win the event, and King came in soon behind her classmate with a runner-up time of 10:41.41.
Meanwhile, Davidson freshman Kennesia Martin was busy off the track setting a new Wildcat record in the triple jump with a mark of 36-9.0 (11.20 m), also good for eighth place. The previous program standard was set in 1994 at 35-4.0 (10.77m).
Senior Allie Martin was the other Wildcat trackster to finish in the top eight of her individual event, taking seventh in the 1500 meters at 4:45.17. Martin set Davidson's 1500-meter program record last weekend at Duke, clocking a time of 4:38.23. Freshman Lucy Rogers placed ninth in the even today.
Also crossing the line just outside the top eight in the 800 meters were sophomore Colleen McKown and senior Hilary Leister, who simultaneously finished ninth at 2:21.25.
Next weekend, the Wildcats will compete in Greensboro, N.C., at the Murray Neely Invitational as a final tune-up before heading down to Statesboro, Ga., for the Southern Conference Outdoor Championships, slated for April 29-30.
