Outdoor Season Off to Strong Start for Wildcat Women
Complete ResultsCONWAY, S.C. — Sophomores Megal Atias and Colleen McKown, and freshman Emily King, led a young Davidson women's track team with top-three individual performances at Coastal Carolina in the Wildcats' outdoor season opener on Saturday.
Posting a time of 4:47.40 in the 1500 meters, Atias claimed the runner-up spot and one of Davidson's top finishes on the day. In the 5000 meters, King also crossed the line second with a time of 18:12.30, while classmate Caroline Sanker took fourth in the event. Turning in a third-place performance was McKown, who ran a 2:19.78 in the 800 meters, with senior Hilary Leister following in seventh.
The Wildcat sprinters also fared well in the outdoor opener as sophomore Katurri Phillips and freshman Kim Colley both bettered the previous 200-meter school record time of 26.56, set in 2001. Phillips put up a time of 26.25 to set the new standard, and Colley came in just six one-hundredths of a second slower.
“I'm very pleased with such a strong performance at our first outdoor meet, and I continue to be pleased with the progress of such a young team,” Davidson head coach Jen Straub said. “Katurri (Phillips) and Kim (Colley) improved upon the school record in the 200 today, and our middle distance and distance girls are knocking on the door in their events.”
The Davidson women will compete at the Aggie Team Challenge, hosted by North Carolina A & T, in Greensboro on Saturday, March 18.
