SoCon Indoor Championship Concludes; Women Break School 1600m Relay Record

CLEMSON, S.C. — Competition concluded at the Southern Conference Indoor Championship in Clemson, S.C., on Saturday with Western Carolina claiming the men's title and Appalachian State winning the women's team contest. Davidson's men came in fifth, while the women placed ninth.
For the Wildcat women, the 4x400 team comprised by sophomores Amaka Obidegwu, Colleen McKown, Karina Nascimento and junior Jessica Chasen broke the school record today with a fifth-place time of 4:04.41. (Cecie Blair, Nascimento, Summerlee Walter and Chasen set the record at last year's conference meet at 4:08.32.) Also, sophomore Megal Atias raced to a fifth-place showing in the mile run to score for the Wildcats with a time of 5:13.39.
Also turning in solid runs for the women's team were freshman Emily King in the 5000 meters with a time of 18:19.55, good for seventh place, and Obidegwu in the long jump with an 11th-place mark of 16-05.25, making her the second-best long jumper in program history.
The outdoor season begins for Davidson's women at Coastal Carolina on March 10.
