Head wrestling coach Bob Patnesky has announced the addition of former All-Americans and Central Michigan standouts Sinnott and Brandon Sinnott to the Davidson wrestling staff. The two began working with the squad this winter and will serve as assistant coaches, while former assistant coach Tim Stroud has moved to Director of Wrestling Operations.
Christian Sinnott joins the Wildcats after two seasons as a private coach for 2013 High School National Champion Parker Vonegidy. Under Sinnott’s tutelage, Vonegidy was also the 2011 Fargo National runner-up and three-time North Carolina State Champion for Piedmont High School. He was also a multiple-time high school All-American. Sinnott also served as an assistant coach for SoCon rival Appalachian State, where he assisted in recruiting efforts and fostered community and alumni relations. In addition, he was in charge of ASU summer wrestling camps and assuring the program was NCAA compliant.
Sinnott was two-time Mid-American Conference Champion and 2008 All-American at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Mich. He helped the Chippewas to a second-place national ranking and seventh place finish at the NCAA Championships while accumulating more than 100 career individual wins. A three-time national qualifier, he earned a Bachelor of Science in sociology from CMU in 2008 before pursuing a Masters’ in Sports Administration while a graduate assistant for the Chippewas. He is currently a patrol officer for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Brandon Sinnott previously spent a season as an assistant coach at the University of Maryland from 2009-10, helping the Terrapins to a 19-4 record and a second-place finish at the 2010 ACC Championship. Sinnott spent 2010-11 training at the University of North Carolina Olympic Training Center, and has also trained as an MMA fighter. He previously volunteered his time coaching both high school wrestlers and MMA fighters as well.
Sinnott was a three-time MAC Champion and two-time NCAA All-American for Central Michigan. He twice claimed top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championships in helping the squad to a second-place national ranking and top-10 finish at the NCAA Championships. After receiving a Bachelor’s of Science in Criminal Justice, Sinnott served as an assistant coach with the Chippewas while pursuing a graduate degree. Along with his brother, Sinnott is a member of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
