Marcus Coleman is a highly accomplished wrestler who recently joined Davidson College as the Assistant Wrestling Coach after graduating from Iowa State in 2023. During his time at Iowa State, he was a distinguished member of the Cyclones wrestling team and finished the 2022-23 season ranked fifth in Division I. With a remarkable 99-42 overall record, Coleman finished as a five-time NCAA Qualifier and a two-time All-American.
In his final season, Coleman secured second place at the 2023 Big Twelve Championship and fifth place at the NCAA Championships in the 184-pound weight class. Notably, he became only the second wrestler in Iowa State history to qualify for five NCAA Championships, showcasing his consistency and excellence throughout his collegiate career.
In the 2021-22 season, Coleman made history by becoming the first Iowa State All-American at 184 pounds since 2008, finishing seventh at the NCAA Championships. Additionally, he secured third place at the Big 12 Championships and concluded the season with a 22-6 record.
During the 2020-21 season, Coleman earned a fourth-place finish at the Big 12 Championships and was honored with a spot on the Big 12's All-Academic Second Team. Apart from his athletic pursuits, he graduated from Iowa State with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, with a minor in Family Services.
Before his collegiate career, Marcus Coleman attended Ames High School, where he left an indelible mark. He won three Iowa High School State Championships and was recognized as the 2017 Wrestler of the Year. His exceptional talent also garnered numerous accolades, including the 2014 USA Cadet Folkstyle National Champion, 2016 Cadet Freestyle Runner-up, 2017 Iowa Cadet Wrestler of the Year, and Iowa HS State Championship MVP. With an impressive track record both in high school and college, Coleman continues to make waves in the world of wrestling.
Coleman is joined in North Carolina by his girlfriend Briona Slaton and their new puppy, Rocko.
