After gaining valuable experience as a professional tennis player, Brett Joelson brings his vast experience to Davidson College as he enters his second year with the Davidson men’s tennis program as assistant coach in 2013.
Joelson, a four-year starter for national powerhouse Texas A&M from 2003-07, had played on the professional tour since 2008. During his time on the tennis ATP World Tour he picked up victories against pros like North Carolina native John Isner and Alex Bogomolov, who is currently ranked 56th in the world. He also made the finals in three challenger tournaments. In addition, Joelson also competed with the Sacramento Capitals on the World Team Tennis Tour.
An outstanding doubles player in college, Joelson was ranked 226th as a professional. During his four-year career at A&M, Joelson was ranked as high as 8th in doubles in the country. The Aggies were ranked as a team in the top-35 of the ITA rankings each of Joelson’s four seasons and reached the NCAA Tournament all four years, including making the Sweet 16 his sophomore season.
A regular from the start of his freshman year in both singles and doubles for the Aggies, Joelson tallied a total of 79 singles wins and 79 doubles wins. His freshman year saw him go 28-13 in singles action, while scoring 23 doubles wins as the Aggies went 24-9 and reached the third round of the NCAA.
He followed that year up with 23 singles wins and a 25-8 doubles mark during his sophomore campaign, reaching as high as 22nd in the rankings for doubles in the country. He was the part of the Aggies’ No. 1 doubles team in his final three seasons.
During his time at A&M he was a two-time Big 12 Player of the Week and helped the team to a combined 72-41 record in four years, with 18 of those wins coming against Big 12 foes.
A 2008 graduate at Texas A&M, Joelson earned a bachelors of science degree in agriculture.
