Kaitlyn Ruhf enters her second season as an assistant coach for the Davidson field hockey team and will assist the Widlcats in their transition from the NorPac to the Atlantic 10. The former Wake Forest goalkeeper works primarily with the Wildcats' defense and goalkeepers in addition to other duties.
In 2013, Ruhf helped the Wildcats to a 6-14 record with competition against a number of nationally-ranked foes, including Stanford, North Carolina and Wake Forest. The Davidson defense ranked fourth in the NorPac in goals allowed per game, while starting goalkeeper Carolyn Macek ranked fourth in goals against average. Macek also shut out a pair of opponents in 2013, ranking third in the league.
Ruhf spent four seasons as nationally-ranked Wake Forest's primary netminder, becoming just the fourth player in program history to make over 300 career saves. She boasts 69 starts in 72 appearances, totaling 4,782 minutes in goal. In addition, Ruhf started in net for the Demon Deacons in a trio of NCAA tournament games, including the 2009 NCAA Quarterfinals vs. North Carolina.
Off the field, Ruhf excelled in the classroom and was named to the 2011 and 2012 All-ACC Academic teams. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Wake Forest in May of 2012. While in Winston-Salem, Ruhf picked up valuable coaching skills while assisting with the Wake Forest Field Hockey Camps along with the Weed Whackers program, a WF youth initiative aimed at spreading awareness and a love of the game through the local community. She also helped with Champions' Edge and the Futures program, working with players on defense and goalkeeping.
"I am excited to be joining the Davidson field hockey program and would like to thank Coach Turner for the opportunity," said Ruhf. "After facing them all four years of my college career, I have always had a great respect for the Wildcats' aggressive style of play. I look forward to working with them and am looking forward to accomplishing great things with the team."
A native of Bethlehem, Pa., Ruhf played four seasons at Freedom High School in the Lehigh Valley Conference, one of the premier high school field hockey leagues in the country. In addition to being a two-time all-conference selection and 2007 and 2008 division champion, Ruhf was a member of the U-16 National team, which is part of the Olympic Pipeline, and gained international experience playing in Canada and Holland.
