Caitlin Walsh joined the Davidson Field Hockey staff as an assistant coach in April 2016.

In her two seasons as assistant coach, Walsh has helped the 'Cats with record-setting performances, such as in 2016 when forward Katherine English and defender Courtney Byler each broke the single-season assist record. Byler also set the single-season record for defensive saves, a feat she repeated in 2017. Both earned A-10 All-Conference recognition.

Walsh comes to Davidson after most recently working as an assistant athletic-academic advisor at ODU, while coaching for the Focus Field Hockey Club in Norfolk, Va., following a stellar collegiate career with the Monarchs.

As an assistant athletic-academic advisor, Walsh developed individual academic support plans, monitored study hall and helped student-athletes create weekly academic goals.

At Focus Field Hockey, Walsh provided one-on-one instruction and team training for players ranging from beginners to advanced skill levels. Walsh worked to educate players about the rules and improve their fundamental skills.

Walsh was a three-year starter for the Monarchs in the midfield and on defense, starting 59 games. The Dowingtown, Pa., native finished her career with 14 points on five goals and four assists, while helping her team to two Colonial Athletic Association titles (2011-12), three Big Eat Tournament appearances (2013-15) and three NCAA Tournament appearances (2011-13).

In 2011, Walsh was part of the Monarch team that won its 15th CAA field hockey title and advanced to the NCAA Final Four with wins over Ohio State and Duke before falling to Maryland in the semifinals.

As a junior, Walsh was named to the All-Big East second team, before helping the team rank second in the league and 28th in the country in goals-against average (1.86) as a senior. Walsh was a two-time NFHCA National Academic Squad honoree and named to ODU’s Deans List four times.

During the summer of 2014, Walsh served as a compliance intern, completing domestic and international transcript evaluations and Progress Towards Degree spreadsheets for ODU student-athletes.

Walsh graduated from Old Dominion in December 2015 with a bachelor of sciences in sports management and a minor in marketing. She currently resides in Davidson and can be found teaching spin classes at Cycle Bar Lake Norman in her spare time.
