Gary Andrew Scholarship
Spring 2014 marked the 29th—and final—season of Gary Andrew's career as Head Coach of the Davidson Men’s Cross Country and Track & Field teams. Among the highlights of his career, he coached 19 Southern Conference champions, 7 NCAA Regional qualifiers, and school record–holders in 41 out of 62 contested events. To celebrate his career, on May 3rd over fifty alumni and current athletes from the classes of 1986–2016 convened for Coach Andrew’s retirement party—a testament to the sense of camaraderie and dedication he fostered on his teams at Davidson.
In recognition of Coach Andrew and his Davidson legacy, we’re now thrilled to announce a fundraising campaign to establish the Gary Andrew Scholarship. So far, in an initial round of fundraising, we’ve seen tremendous dedication from our younger alumni: graduates from the classes of ’06–’14 have pledged over $150,000 towards our goal of $500,000 to partially endow and immediately award a Davidson Men’s Track & Field scholarship that will be given in perpetuity.
We’re now turning to all Davidson Men’s Cross Country and Track & Field alumni regardless of whether or not they competed for Coach Andrew to complete the campaign. It’s our hope that each of you will help anchor this fundraising relay—either by making a one-time gift or multi-year pledge in support of the Gary Andrew Scholarship.
