The NCAA and the Atlantic 10 Conference have many rules that apply to the scholar-athlete. Some of the most important regulations are summarized here.
Sexual Misconduct - Davidson College is committed to creating and maintaining an environment that is free of sexual misconduct, stalking, and relationship abuse and violence, and that promotes a healthy spirit of responsibility, dignity and respect in the matters of sexual conduct and interpersonal relationships. You can find more information about Davidson College's Sexual Misconduct Policy in the Scholar-Athlete Handbook, located on the Compliance homepage.
Gambling - Scholar-athletes, coaches and athletic department staff members shall not knowingly participate or have any involvement in sports wagering activities concerning intercollegiate, amateur, or professional athletics competition. You can find more information on Davidson's Sports Gambling policy in the Scholar-Athlete Handbook, located on the Compliance homepage.
Hazing and Initiations- The coaches and administrators of the Davidson athletics department firmly believe that there is no place in athletics for hazing or team initiations involving hazing. You can find more information on Davidson's Hazing and Initiations Policy in the Scholar-Athlete Handbook, located on the Compliance homepage.
Drugs – At the beginning of each year, you must sign a drug testing consent form. This simply means that you agree to be drug tested if you are selected by the NCAA. Failure to sign the form will result in your ineligibility.
If a test reveals that you have used any of the prohibited drugs, you will immediately be declared ineligible. You may lose an entire season of eligibility or become permanently ineligible. Depending upon the particular sport and other circumstances, the team and the college may also be penalized.
Your coach and athletics trainers have a list of prohibited drugs. Banned drugs are listed in the training room and located on the NCAA website, listed below. You should be aware of these substances and avoid the use of them. Please be aware that certain enhancing substances can contain these drugs. Make sure to check everything with the Athletics Trainers.

Davidson College's Athletic Department participates in its own Drug and Alcohol Education and Testing Policy, with the goal of promoting a substance-free environment in the college's intercollegiate athletics program. You can find more information on Davidson College's Drug and Alcohol Education and Testing Policy in the Scholar-Athlete Handbook, located on the Compliance homepage.
Use of Name or Picture in Advertising -- The NCAA has very strict rules regarding pictures of athletes in publications. The best thing to do is to call the compliance director at your school and make sure it is legal before letting anyone use your picture. This is a ruling that tends to cause problems for scholar-athletes. Beware!
Tickets - As a student of Davidson College you are entitled to admission to all of Davidson's regular season home intercollegiate athletic contests. Actual tickets for the events cannot be issued. You will be granted admission after presenting your CAT card (Davidson College Identification Card) and the scanner has read it.
According to NCAA rules and regulations, an institution may provide four complimentary admissions per home or away intercollegiate athletics event to a scholar-athlete in the sport in which the individual participates (either practices or competes), regardless of whether the scholar-athlete competes in the contest. These tickets will be part of the “player pass list.” "Hard tickets" will not be issued to the individuals but will be admitted by the a pass list only.
