SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Davidson's final tune up before the A-10 Championship featured personal-best 8K times from seven scholar-athletes. John Cooper led the 'Cats with a sixth-place finish overall (24:04.10) at the Upstate Invitational. That time makes Cooper the second-fastest Wildcat in the 8K, only behind Ryan Harris.
"I am very pleased with the team's performance," said Coach Andrew Allden. "The weather was excellent and it was the first race this year that wasn't super hot. The course was nice and firm."
Quinn Swanton was the second Wildcat to cross the finish line. Swanton ran 24:25.60 and finished 17th. This is the fastest 8K for the sophomore in his college career.
Alex Thole also ran a personal-best time of 24:39.70 in the 8K. Graham Boles recorded a PR as well (25:11.30) in the 8K. Eli Roth's PR was 25:27.90.
"We had an average time of 24:41 for our top five guys today," Coach Allden added. "We are in an excellent spot as a team with two weeks to go until the A-10 Championship. We also feel like we have one more step we can improve on."
Freshmen Sam Wooten and Eric Robinson III also ran well. Wooten ran 25:37.90 and Robinson ran 25:08.10.
Davidson finished fourth out of 37 teams.
