
Davidson Defeats Charlotte in Straight Sets

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Led by a career-high 21 kills and zero errors from Elena Garcia-Guerrios, Davidson defeated Charlotte in straight sets on Sunday afternoon. Each set was decided by three points or less. The Wildcats wrapped up opening weekend with two wins across three matches.
For the third straight match, Davidson posted a hitting percentage above .300 in the opening set. Garcia-Guerrios and Meile Songaila combined for 11 kills. Songaila continued her strong performance and recorded the final two kills in the second set to lift the Wildcats to a 30-28 win.
Davidson and Charlotte played a very close third set. Neither team had a lead larger than three points. Mia Compas contributed with four of her seven kills in this frame. The Wildcats took the final set 25-22.
In addition to a career-high 21 kills, Garcia-Guerrios finished the match with 13 digs and a .538 hitting percentage across 39 attempts. The junior has posted three consecutive double doubles to begin the season. Jordan Hummel was also solid in the back row as well with a team-high 19 digs.
