Flynn Signs Free Agent Deal With Blue Jays

Former Davidson pitcher Bennett Flynn signed a free agent deal with the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday, the organization announced.
Flynn, a 2023 graduate, was a two-time Atlantic 10 Conference First Team selection, and he concluded his Wildcats career with a program-best 13.4 strikeouts-per-nine innings before playing as a graduate student at Notre Dame in 2024.
"It's an awesome opportunity for Bennett," said coach Rucker Taylor. "He has a chance to do something many dream about, but few get to do. His journey from high school catcher to professional pitcher is quite remarkable. And he has a great graduate degree to stack on top of his undergrad from Davidson."
At Davidson, Flynn made 68 appearances covering 122.0 innings and produced a 3.17 ERA and 188 strikeouts, while holding opposing hitters to a .189 average. He finished with an 8-4 record and 14 saves and made four starts.
In 2022, Flynn helped the Wildcats win the A-10 regular season title by posting a 1.41 ERA and 3-1 record to go with six saves in 38.1 innings. He was 5-1 with a league-best 3.36 ERA in 2023, while contributing as both a starter and reliever.
Flynn was named a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball after posting an 0.90 ERA in seven appearances in 2020.
This year at Notre Dame, Flynn was 1-2 with a 5.40 ERA, three saves and 53 strikeouts in 19 appearances and 40.0 innings.
