DAVIDSON, N.C. – Junior Jayden Smith was named the Men's Track Co-Performer of the Week by the Atlantic 10 for his record-setting weekend at the Liberty Open this past Saturday.
Today's accolade marks the third time this season the Richmond, Va. native has earned Track Performer of the Week after he picked up the same honors on December 6 and January 23.
Over the weekend, Smith broke his own school record in the 60-meter hurdles while taking first place with a time of 7.73 seconds. It was his third top finish in as many outings, and his time topped Smith's previous record of 7.76 which he set last season at Boston University. It also ranks tied for 21st in the country on the NCAA Division I indoor qualifying list.
On top of that, Smith turned heads in the 200-meter dash at Liberty. The third-year man ran the second-fastest time in program history and took fourth place after stopping the timer in 21.84 seconds. That mark was .01 seconds off Smith's current school record of 21.83, and it also puts him third on the A-10 Indoor Performance List.
Smith will have another chance to keep his momentum going this weekend at Boston University's David Hemery Valentine Invitational. He will compete in the 60H and 200M on Saturday.
