ST. LOUIS, Mo. – For the first time in program history, Davidson led the Pioneer Football League in academic honor roll selections as announced by the conference Friday afternoon.
The Wildcats, who had 81 scholar-athletes recognized by the PFL, is just the third school to eclipse 80 honorees since 2001.
Four other PFL member schools also saw a record number of student-athletes recognized on the academic honor roll: Marist (70), Morehead State (74), Presbyterian (57), and Valparaiso (65). In addition, Butler (72), Dayton (76), Drake (75), St. Thomas (71) had more than 70 student-athletes named to the honor roll.
The PFL Academic Honor Roll consists of student-athletes who participated in football at member institutions during the semester of competition and posted a 3.0 grade-point average or higher during the semester while enrolled full-time in accordance with NCAA rules.
Pioneer Football League athletic director and coaches established the honor roll in 2001 as a way to recognize the league's outstanding student-athletes. The league has recognized over 10,000 student-athletes on the PFL Academic Honor Roll in its 23 seasons.
