Track & Field to Host Two In-Person USATF Clinics in January

DAVIDSON – This January, the Davidson College track & field team will be hosting two in-person clinics for prospective coaches and officials in the region. The Wildcats will be hosting a USATF Level 1 Coaching Education School on January 11-12. Then, on January 25, the program will host a USATF Officials Certification Clinic.
USATF Level I Coaching Education School
*First in-person school on the east coast since pre-COVID*
*New Updated Curriculum*
Purpose: This course prepares an individual to coach at the junior age, high school, and college division level by emphasizing fundamentals, teaching progressions, rules, safety, and risk management. The course covers all track & field events and related sports science.

Requirements:
To enroll in a USATF Level 1 School a coach must:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Have a current USATF membership

- Over 30 years coaching experience at all levels from high school to DI
- Three-time NAIA All American at Simon Fraser University
- Represented Canada on 3 National Teams
Shawn Venable (Instructor for Sprints/Relays/Jumps)
- Associate Head Coach Liberty University
- IAAF Level 5/USATF Level 3 certified in jumps (2013), sprints and hurdles (2014) and combined events (2015)
- USA Weightlifting Level 1 coach, USTFCCCA Strength & Conditioning Coach and a National Pole Vault Coaches Association (NPVCA) Certified Coach
- Fred Wilt/Educator of the Year
- Vern Gambetta Coaching Education Award
Carol Lawrence (Instructor for Hurdles)
- Head Track and Field Coach Johnson C. Smith University
- Former Head Girls Coach at Providence Day School

Purpose: The purpose of this clinic is for participants to become a USATF certified official. No previous experience required.
